A reader sent in some questions and I wanted to answer quickly.

- What is a picture of thrush?
Thrush is a yeast infection. The majority of diagnosed cases are caused by a type of yeast called candida albicans (formerly known as Monilia). Candida is a type of fungus, which lives and grows normally on the body.
Thrush is also known by other names such as candida, yeast infection, thrush mouth, candidosis, moniliasis or candida condition.
Yeast grows normally on the body. Candida grows best in warm, damp areas. On the body candida grows in the mouth, on the genitals and in skin folds.
Most of the time the body’s defense system of checks and balances prevents candida from over growing. The body’s immune system and other bacteria in and on the body prevent the candida from overgrowth.
What causes people to get thrush?
But sometimes the balance in the body is upset. When the body's balance is upset, yeast has the potential to overgrow. Stress, diabetes, pregnancy, some cancer treatments, organ transplants, and HIV can all change the checks and balances of the body.
Who gets thrush?
Babies with their undeveloped immune systems can also get thrush as well as passing it onto their nursing mothers. Another frequent cause for women is getting thrush following a course of antibiotics. People who use steroid inhalers for asthma or other lung conditions are also prone to thrush infections.
As a result the thrush or yeast infection can occur at any age and in both sexes. I've posted a picture of thrush here.
