Yeast infections in the mouth are called thrush. The most common type of yeast causing infection is candida albicans. So a yeast infection of the mouth maybe called candida albicans in the mouth, thrush mouth or candida mouth .
What Does Thrush Look Like?
Thrush looks like small patches of yellowish white cottage cheese or cream of wheat. In a baby it may look like formula, milk, or spit-up of the milk. 
What Are The Symptoms Of Thrush?
People who have thrush have creamy white patches in their mouth. Most often the patches will be see on the tongue or inside the cheeks. But it also can be found on the gums and even in the back of the throat.
In severe cases the patches can spread down into the stomach. A person with a severe case of thrush might have difficulty swallowing or even a fever.
Who Gets Thrush?
People with weakened immune system such as those with cancer and HIV can have thrush spread to the lungs and liver.
Babies often get thrush, as their immune systems are not fully developed. The baby may be fussy or have trouble feeding. If the mom is breast-feeding she may get the infection on her breasts. The mom would have painful nipples both during nursing and between feedings. Her nipples will also be unusually red and may crack.
What Causes Thrush?
Normally small amounts of candida live in the mouth, skin and digestive track (stomach and intestines) of healthy people. Other bacteria keep the yeast in balance. This way neither the yeast nor the bacteria take over. Bacteria and yest are needed to keep our bodies in balance.
Some bacteria help our bodies work. The bacteria can make enzymes work in our stomach and other parts of our body. Yeast in our body keeps the bacteria in balance from overtaking the body.
Stress, taking steroids, birth control pills and antibiotics can upset the balance between the bacteria and the yeast. When that happens, a yeast infection can happen.
Illnesses such as cancer, HIV, and diabetes can allow yeast to overgrow. This sets up the stage for a candida albicans mouth infection. Smokers, people with dry mouths and those who wear dentures are prime candidates for thrush.
Breast-feeding moms can also get the yeast infection from their babies. Babies are more prone to candida mouth as their immune systems aren’t fully developed.
