Connection Between Diet And Yeast Infections

Some people have a tendency to develop yeast infections. Cancer treatments and HIV can weaken the immune system. This can allow a yeast infection to develop. Diabetes and douching can also set up conditions where yeast can grow more rapidly leading to a yeast infection.

Some people have tried candida diets successfully to minimize the problem.

Yeast: Diet Connection

More and more information has been discovered about the connection between diet and yeast infections. A change in diet could minimize and possibly decrease the number and severity of yeast infections. This is also called a candidiasis diet. Low acid diets eliminating yeast as much as possible can improve the life of those suffering from yeast infections.

Bottom line; if a food causes gas as it breaks down in your body avoid the food. Gas is a byproduct or part of fermentation. Fermentation involves yeast. Since you want to avoid yeast do not eat these types of foods.

This can be used for a thrush diet as well. By decreasing the acid you also minimize the mouth soreness.

Low acid and yeast free diets can be very restrictive and difficult to continue using. Making the low acid and yeast free diet can be a problem. Most people when looking at the list of Do Not Eat foods quickly become discouraged.

Foods to avoid or decrease include:

  • · All sweeteners especially those in processed foods. Check labels for corn syrup and artificial sweeteners especially those made with sugar alcohols. By doing this you minimize the effects of sugar on a candida diet. Remember sugar helps yeast to grow.
  • · Pasta especially those made from durum flour (semolina)
  • · Baked goods and breads. This includes cakes, cookies and pastries, which include sugar.
  • · Avoid beans, peas, fermented tofu (tempeh).
  • · Tomatoes and tomato based foods such as ketchup, salsa or tomato sauces.
  • · Aged cheeses
